about

Hi!
My name is Sam Paz and after 1 year of having a website, it just struck me that not all of you might not know who I am.

First, let me tell you about what we're doing around here. "SAM PAZ" (creative name, I know!) is a brand and atmosphere based in NYC/NJ that not only supports the environment in sourcing recycled and deadstock fabrics, but works to build a community presence. This is done through popups spanning NJ and NYC (for now), donating $2 of every purchase to charities, and working to interact with creative culture in every way.

What does this all mean? It means that the world of SAM PAZ is collaborative through playlists, projects, video, art, soft and memorable clothing, dialogue, etc. - I'm pretty much down for anything that sounds cool. The best part about this huge collaborative effort is that I aim to be able to include everyone, especially if you cannot buy the items. Let's talk about the songs on the soundtracks, or work on a video together, or something! This is more than just me selling my art, I want you here!

The current collection: "sampazworld" is a stream-of-consciousness exploration of the silly things I've always loved. Tracking small constants in my life resulted in loving: the number 2, looking at stars, horses, and soft things.

It is about exploring a world that you didn’t even see yourself making. It’s about intentionally catching small patterns in yourself like only a lover would. I made this collection and atmosphere continuous in order to track my life with those few things, so SPworld would grow and change with me.

In this world, is sampazgarage, a homage to the home of the sale and the sound, where I give new life to old pieces and explore new music artists and cohost live music events.

Like SPworld, each collection and piece is representative of a specific story or feeling I've experienced and balances unique silhouettes with comfortable fabrics. Described as eccentric, comfortable and versatile, I aim to connect with every wearer by creating their "comfort statement piece".

Sam Paz, the person

My name is Sam Paz and I am the designer and CEO and founder and all of that. I tend to say "we" alot when describing my business, truly because I don't feel like it's just me. Besides all of the lovely people I've gotten to meet through here, I include my family and friends who have more impact on this than they probably think. To start with, my grandma, who I call Yaya, taught me to sew and gave me my first machine, the one I still use. She came to the U.S. from Argentina, leaving her schoolteacher background behind to work in factories to support my dad and his siblings. For as long as I've known her, she has been sewing these amazing quilts and entering contests, donating the extras to charities. She even made masks during the pandemic and stuffed toys for the children's hospital. Now that I type this, maybe that is a reason why I connect my sewing with a need to give back. It takes a certain privilege to begin sewing for fun instead of necessity.

All extremely hardworking passionate people, my parents and sister are definitely an inspiration to my work. My love for fashion came from my mom and her subscription to StyleWatch, and my entrepreneurial mindset matches my dad's. I look to all of them not only as a reason to work hard, but as inspiration. Being surrounded by their interests (gardening, baseball, etc.) have definitely inspired many of my pieces. You can even see their faces in some of the images I put out. I have a very Taylor-Swift-coded need to hide small details and clues in all of my work.

As for who I am, I am a person who enjoys a good meal, a soft shirt, yellow-green grass, the springtime, cuban coffee, vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting, the color periwinkle, the number 2, horses, a song that scratches my brain and makes me realize things, the anonymity and confidence of the city, reflecting on things that happened years ago, and making new friends. My last name is Paz which means "Peace" in Spanish, so Paz World is kind of a riff on World Peace. I love making and learning art, whether that's clothing, videos, paintings, writing, or music. I love to talk about art and explain my process , but I cannot keep a diary for the life of me. Other interests include: ballet, math, reading, vintage shopping, making extravagent breakfasts, and laying in bed. You could probably deduce more from listening to my playlists or scrolling to the depths of my Instagram unfortunately.

That's all for now, my fingers hurt because I wrote this all in one sitting.

Let's hang out, xo
